General Treatment

GENERAL TREATMENT

We believe in practicing dentistry that is as non-invasive and preventative as possible. We encourage our patients to take good care of their oral health because preventing problems is always better than curing them!

We work with the whole family to make sure you maintain healthy, beautiful smiles from childhood through to old age. We treat children, adults and seniors and strives to establish a lifelong relationship with every patient.

Each age group requires a different approach because dental needs changes with time. It is vital to have dental check-ups every six months to maintain your teeth and gums in a healthy condition. Be sure to make a booking if you are due for a check up!

Digital X-Ray/imaging

Digital x-rays have many advantages over traditional x-rays. Images can also be viewed instantly and patients are exposed to far lower levels of radiation.

Fillings

A composite resin (mercury free) filling is a tooth-coloured plastic and glass mixture to restore the decayed area and give a natural look. It is important to complete dental restorations in a way that restores the functionality of a tooth while also looking completely natural.

Emergency care

Pain and injury to the mouth may include teeth that are knocked out or fractured. During accidents, lips, gums and cheeks are often cut. Oral injuries are often painful and should be treated as soon as possible. Infection and swelling should be attended to immediately. We try to accommodate any last-minute appointment requests so that you don’t have to live with oral pain.

Veneers, crown and bridges

  • Veneers are thin, custom made porcelain layers that we bond to the front part of your tooth. It is used to correct warn, chipped, misaligned, stained or discoloured teeth.
  • A dental crown is a tooth shaped “cap” made from either pure porcelain or a combination of zirconia and porcelain. It is mostly used to restore severely broken teeth, teeth that have had root canal treatment done and crooked or stained teeth.
  • A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. Missing teeth can adversely affect the functionality and appearance of your smile.

Root canal

The aim of root canal treatment is to remove all the impurities from the canal and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected so that it is prepared for a root canal filling. Root canal treatment is a dental procedure that replaces a tooth’s damaged or infected tissue with a filling. The pulp consists of nerve fibres, blood vessels, tissue fibres and cells located in the hollow space in the central part of the tooth and root. The tooth is filled with an antibacterial filling. The pulp inflammation is the main reason for tooth ache, infection and swelling.

Minor oral surgery

A severely damaged or fractured tooth may need to be surgically extracted. Permanent teeth may also need to be removed for orthodontic treatment.

Partial/full dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. While dentures can be durable and give patients a full smile, patients need to ensure that they take proper care of them. Proper denture care involves removing it each night for cleaning.

Gum disease treatment

Scaling and root planing are a non-surgical procedure used to treat gum disease. It is when plaque and calculus are removed from below the gum surface. This procedure smooths the tooth’s root. It helps the gums to heal and reattach to the cleaner and smoother root surface. This treatment is necessary for patients who are at risk for gum disease.

Bite plates

When people unknowingly grind their teeth at night, they subject themselves to pain, worn-down enamel and other issues during the day. We can customise night guards to the individual’s teeth for a healthy fit and effective treatment.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening can either be done in the dental chair or in the comfort of your own home. Teeth whitening are possible by applying a bleaching gel onto the front surface of your teeth for an extended amount of time. Whitening should only take place once plaque and tartar are removed from the tooth surface for optimal results. During the teeth whitening process your gums will be protected. It is advised that after you bleached your teeth, to stay away from food or drinks that may stain your teeth for up to 24 hours.
